FAMILY THERAPIST
Family therapy is a type of counseling that helps family members
improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships.
It involves working with families as a whole system to address issues
that affect the emotional health of the group and its individual members.
Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used with children, utilizing play as a
medium for expression and communication. Through play, children can explore their
feelings, experiences, and behaviors in a safe environment, allowing therapists to gain
insight into their emotional and psychological challenges. The therapy often involves
various creative techniques, such as storytelling, role-playing, and the use of toys or art
materials, enabling children to articulate thoughts and feelings that they may struggle
to express verbally.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It’s based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that changing unhelpful thinking can lead to changes in emotions and actions. CBT is typically structured, goal-oriented, and focused on present issues. It’s commonly used to treat conditions like depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and more. Techniques often include identifying cognitive distortions, practicing new coping skills, and gradually facing feared situations.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach primarily used to help people process and heal from traumatic experiences. It involves recalling distressing memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation—such as guide eye movements, taps, or sounds—which is believed to reduce the emotional intensity of the memory. The goal of EMDR is to help individuals reprocess traumatic memories so they are no longer psychologically disruptive. It’s most commonly used for PTSD but has also been applied to anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a specialized form of CBT designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome the impact of traumatic experiences. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions to address the emotional and psychological needs of young people dealing with trauma. TF-CBT typically includes components like psychoeducation, relaxation skills,
emotional regulation, trauma narration, and cognitive restructuring. It also involves
active participation from caregivers to support the child’s recovery. TF-CBT is especially effective for treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems related to trauma.
